New York Yankees starter Phil Hughes took the loss in relief, while Washington closer Matt Capps struck out the only batter he faced to earn the win.
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) Major League Baseball paid tribute to George Steinbrenner before last night's All Star game. The New York Yankees owner of 37 years died Tuesday morning after suffering a heart attack. He turned 80 on the Fourth of July.
ST. ANDREWS, Scotland (AP) - The top golfers in the world are putting the finishing touches on their games today at St. Andrews, where the British Open gets under way tomorrow. Tiger Woods has captured the claret jug the last two times the Open was played at the home of golf.
ZURICH (AP) - World Cup winner Spain has supplanted Brazil at the top of the world rankings, with the South Americans dropping to third after a disappointing showing in South Africa. World Cup runner-up Netherlands is sandwiched in between. The U.S. crept up one spot to 13th.
SECAUCUS, N.J. (AP) - France striker Thierry Henry has signed on with Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls. Once regarded as one of the top players in the world, the 32-year-old Henry was released by Barcelona last month after scoring just four goals last season.
