TUCKER, Ga. (AP) - Michael Vick was a no show at his own
celebrity golf tournament in Georgia after probation officials
restricted travel for the Eagles quarterback over the weekend. The
restriction follows a prosecutor saying last week that while Vick
wasn't involved in a shooting after his 30th birthday party in
Virginia Beach, he was in a confrontation before the incident.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Cole Hamels tossed six-hit ball into the
eighth inning, Jimmy Rollins drove in the only run and the Phillies
completed a four-game sweep of the NL West-leading Reds with a 1-0
win yesterday. Hamels struck out three, walked three and didn't
allow a run for the first time in 18 starts this season.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia Phillies went 0 for 2 on
video replay reviews after two doubles weren't changed into home
runs against the Reds yesterday. Carlos Ruiz led off the third
inning Sunday with a ground-rule double when a fan reached over the
fence and touched the ball. Later, Jayson Werth hit a drive to deep
center in the fourth that was caught by a fan.
MILWAUKEE (AP) - Corey Hart hit a two-run homer in the ninth
inning to give the Brewers a dramatic 6-5 victory over the Pirates
yesterday. The Brewers trailed 5-4 when pinch hitter Jim Edwards
led off the ninth with a ground-rule double off Octavio Dotel.
Milwaukee swept the three-game series and handed Pittsburgh its
sixth straight loss.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Eagles were one of 20 teams checking out
BYU running back Harvey Unga work out last week. The Philadelphia
Inquirer reports the Birds are among four teams who seemed to show
the most interest in. Unga withdrew from the school for an honor
code violation.
OAKMONT, Pa. (AP) - Paula Creamer has won her first major
tournament, taking the U.S. Women's Open at Oakmont Country Club in
suburban Pittsburgh. Creamer had been considered the best women's
golfer to not win a major. She went into the final round at sunny
Oakmont Country Club with a three-shot lead that never dwindled
below two shots.
CHESTER, Pa. (AP) - Arturo Alvarez scored in the 91st minute to
lead the San Jose Earthquakes past the Philadelphia Union, 2-1, on
Saturday. Cornell Glen also scored for the Earthquakes, who won for
the first time since May 22. San Jose had been 0-2-3 in its last
five matches. Fred scored for the Union, who lost for the first
time at home this season.
