WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Monday

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Paul Maholm pitched a three-hitter for his
second career shutout and the Pirates established a season high for
hits in beating the Houston Astros 9-0 yesterday. Garrett Jones hit
a two-run shot for the Pirates' first multiple-run homer in five
weeks. Maholm needed just 103 pitches to throw his first complete
game since April 2008.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Andrew McCutchen left the Pirates' game Sunday
against the Astros in the eighth inning with neck soreness. The
centerfielder was injured making a diving catch in right-center on
a sinking liner hit by Pedro Feliz. The Pirates say additional
testing was being performed and that his status will be updated.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pirates general manager Neal Huntington is
looking at sending a couple of prospects overseas. Huntington has
confirmed that the team has deals in the works to send Triple-A
right-hander Hayden Penn and Vinnie Chulk to Japanese clubs

CHICAGO (AP) - Philadelphia's Roy Halladay hit Marlon Byrd twice
and gave up two-run homers to Geovany Soto and Alfonso Soriano
after each plunking, sending the Chicago Cubs to an 11-6 victory
over the Phillies last night. The Cubs took three of four from
Philadelphia in the weekend series.

CHESTER, Pa. (AP) - Sebastien Le Toux scored on a penalty deep
into stoppage time to give the Philadelphia Union a 2-1 win over
Toronto FC on Saturday. Maksim Usanov's hand ball led to Le Toux's
goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time. He leads the Union with
seven this season.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pitt defensive end Jabaal Sheard is suspended
from the Panthers following his arrest in Pittsburgh yesterday. The
Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports Sheard is charged with felony

offense. The newspaper reports he was involved in an altercation on
the city's South Side.
