ST. LOUIS (AP) - The Cardinals launched four long balls in a
span of six at bats last night to knock off the Phillies 8-4 in St.
Louis. Albert Pujols started the barrage with a two-run homer and
Allen Craig added his first career homer and Skip Schumaker hit his
third of the season in a five-run fifth against Kyle Kendrick.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Milwaukee's Prince Fielder and Rickie Weeks
each hit home runs for the second consecutive game as the Brewers
beat the Pirates 3-1 last night. After 36 combined hits Saturday
and Sunday, Pittsburgh could only manage six against Milwaukee.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pittsburgh centerfielder Andrew McCutchen
wasn't in the lineup against Milwaukee, but the Pirates are
optimistic the neck injury he suffered while making a diving catch
Sunday isn't serious. McCutchen leads the Pirates in batting
average, on-base percentage, runs and stolen bases.
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Longtime Flyer Simon Gagne (see-MOHN'
gahn-YAY') is heading south. Philadelphia has traded Gagne to Tampa
Bay for defenseman Matt Walker and a fourth round pick in the 2011
draft. Gagne was drafted by Philadelphia in the first round of the
1998 draft.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pitt defensive end Jabaal Sheard has been
suspended indefinitely after being charged with assault for
allegedly throwing another man through the glass door of an art
gallery. Police say Sheard was involved in a fight early Sunday and
had to be pepper sprayed after he threw the other man through the
glass door of La Fond Galleries.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - There will be no Whitehouse at Penn
State's Beaver Stadium this year. Tickets for the Nittany Lions'
September game against Temple encouraged fans to wear all white.
But the athletic department says that was a misprint, and the next
planned Whitehouse game is for next year against Alabama.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Former Duquesne University center Oliver
Lewinson is heading to Division II Seton Hill University in
Greensburg. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports Lewison played in
38 games in two years with the Dukes, but he saw limited playing
time last season.
NEW YORK (AP) - Philadelphia's Sebastien Le Toux has been added
to Major League Soccer's All-Star roster. The MLS squad will take
on English Premier League standout Manchester United in Houston on
July 28th.
