PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Brad Lidge was able to escape another
bases-loaded jam in the ninth inning as the Phillies held off the
Colorado Rockies 5-4 yesterday to complete a four-game sweep.
Backup catcher Brian Schneider's two-run triple sent the Phillies
toward their fifth straight win. The two-time NL champions are now
within 4-and-a-half games of idle East-leading Atlanta.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) - An NFL spokesman says there has been no
change in Michael Vick's playing status, so the Eagles quarterback
reported to training camp yesterday as expected. The NFL and the
Eagles have been looking into a shooting incident at a Virginia
Beach nightclub, where Vick held his 30th birthday party on June
25th.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Penguins say their longtime
public address announcer, John Barbero, died last night at the age
of 65. The team says Barbero had battled a brain tumor since
February of last year. Barbero began with the Penguins in 1972 and
was the voice of the "Igloo" for 36 years.

CHICAGO (AP) - Midfielder Justin Mapp has been traded from Major
League Soccer's Chicago Fire to the Philadelphia Union for

fourth overall pick in 2002 and joined the Fire a year later. He
had 14 goals and 36 assists in 174 games with the Fire.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Nashville Predators have signed
defenseman Ryan Parent to a two-year, $1.85 million contract.
Parent was acquired from Philadelphia in June in exchange for Dan
Hamhuis. He'll make $850,000 in 2010-11 and $1 million in 2011-12.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia police say two Drexel
University basketball players have turned themselves in to face
robbery and weapons charges after an armed robbery at a student's
apartment. Jamie Harris and Kevin Phillip turned themselves in
Monday. A third man, Devon Bond, was arrested last week.

GRANTVILLE, Pa. (AP) - A central Pennsylvania jockey remains
hospitalized after the horse he was riding fell during a race.
