PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pedro Alvarez hit a grand slam in Pittsburgh's
nine-run first and a solo drive in the second to help the Pirates
beat the Brewers 11-9 last night. Fellow rookie Neil Walker had a
career-high five hits for the Pirates, who got three-plus scoreless
innings from four relievers after the Brewers got within two.

ST. LOUIS (AP) - The Phillies dropped another one last night,
this time it was a 7-1 loss in St. Louis. The Phillies have lost
five of six since the All-Star break. Randy Winn and Matt Holliday
homered for St. Louis.

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Phillies pitcher Jamie Moyer strained his left
elbow and left last night's game after one inning against the St.
Louis Cardinals. Moyer is the oldest pitcher in the major leagues.
He threw 18 pitches in the first inning, allowing two-out hits to
Albert Pujols and Matt Holliday before getting Allen Craig on a
lineout.

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Phillies pitcher Kyle Kendrick has been sent to
the minors, a day after giving up three home runs in one inning.
Kendrick squandered leads of 3-0 and 4-2 in an 8-4 loss to the St.
Louis Cardinals on Monday night and was sent to Triple-A Lehigh
Valley on Tuesday. Right-hander Andrew Carpenter has been recalled
from Lehigh Valley.

ST. LOUIS (AP) - With Kyle Kendrick in the minors, the Phillies
need a starter for Saturday's game. And general manager Ruben Amaro

through a trade. Amaro tells The Philadelphia Inquirer that the
club knows "exactly" what it's going to do, but isn't give any
hints.

experience. Clark had signed with the Redskins as an undrafted free
agent earlier this year.

VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) - The Philadelphia Freedoms knocked off the
