STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Former Penn State football stars and others paid tribute to Joe Paterno in a huge campus memorial service that exposed a strong undercurrent of anger over his firing. Paterno's son Jay received a standing ovation when he declared: "Joe Paterno left this world with a clear conscience."

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A national poll shows falling support for the decision by Penn State trustees to fire the late Joe Paterno. The Seton Hall Sports Poll released yesterday indicated that 42 percent of respondents polled nationwide support the football coach's firing. That's down from 55 percent in November.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Maggie Lucas had 23 points and eight rebounds to help No. 18 Penn State beat Michigan 77-56 last night. Alex Bentley had 18 points and eight assists, and Nikki Greene added 13 points and 11 rebounds to help the Lady Lions win their fifth straight. Penn State players had "JVP" patches, a tribute to former football coach Joe Paterno, sewn to their jerseys.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) — C.J. McCollum had 24 points and 14 rebounds as Lehigh pulled away from Navy in the second half of a 71-60 win, earning its 16th victory and tying last season's win total. The Mountain Hawks pulled 10 games over .500 in the regular season for the first time since 1988.

MIAMI (AP) — An attorney for the NFL says former players should not be allowed to sue for damages over concussions they suffered because player safety issues are governed by the league's collective bargaining agreement. NFL lawyer Beth Wilkinson says there are now 21 lawsuits filed in six states by more than 300 former players over head injuries. A federal judicial panel held a hearing yesterday in Miami on whether to consolidate the lawsuits before a single judge for pretrial matters. The leading choice is a judge in Philadelphia, where the first lawsuit was filed.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A Ukrainian hockey coach charged with fondling a teen player in Philadelphia is due in court today. Federal authorities will seek to detain 48-year-old Ivan (ee-VAHN') Pravilov (PRAH'-vuh-lahv). An indictment charges Pravilov with taking a 14-year-old Ukrainian boy from Delaware to the coach's Philadelphia apartment this month and fondling him. His public defender Mark Wilson isn't commenting on the charges.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — NASCAR officials say Pocono Raceway founder and chairman Dr. Joseph Mattioli has died. He was at 86. Bob Pleban, the vice president of administration at Pocono Raceway, says family members informed him that Mattioli died yesterday at the Lehigh Valley Hospital Center in Allentown. Mattioli founded Pocono Raceway in the early 1960's and ran the speedway for more than four decades with his wife, Rose. They retired last year.

The gathering was held outside Old Main last night, several hours after Paterno died of lung cancer at a hospital.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Penn State football coach Joe Paterno would have been a dramatic witness at the upcoming trials of his former assistant and two university officials. But legal experts say his death will have little effect on the criminal and civil cases stemming from the Penn State child-sex scandal.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Retired Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky says Joe Paterno's death is a sad day. Sandusky faces child sex abuse charges in a case that led to the firing of Paterno. STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Penn State's board of trustees will meet tomorrow amid growing criticism over the firing of coach Joe Paterno. It's the board's first meeting since November when child sex abuse charges were filed against former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky. Now, some alumni and former players are wondering whether the trustees have been up front with them.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson scored 19 points and Ramone Moore had 17 as Temple defeated La Salle 76-70 in an Atlantic 10 Conference game last night. VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) — JayVaughn Pinkston had 23 points and 11 rebounds, and Maalik Wayns scored 25 points to lead Villanova to an 84-76 win over Seton Hall last night. James Bell scored 18 to help the Wildcats win for just the second time in seven games.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) — Mike Muscala scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Bucknell over Lehigh 68-61 last night. Muscala was 7 of 18 from the field in the battle of the past two Patriot League champions. It was also a meeting of the last two Patriot League Players of the year. Muscala won it last year, while Lehigh's C.J. McCollum grabbed the honors the year before.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A Philadelphia judge has upped the bail for a New Jersey man charged with brutally assaulting an off-duty police officer and Iraq war veteran in a fight between Flyers and Rangers fans following the NHL Winter Classic. Dennis Veteri was held on $400,000 bail after yesterday's hearing. Veteri was arrested last week in connection with the fight outside a popular cheesesteak shop.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl is donating $1,400 he raised by selling his Tim Tebow jersey on eBay to the Pittsburgh Promise. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports the mayor founded the scholarship program which provides college tuition assistance to graduates of Pittsburgh Public Schools who maintain certain minimum grade-point averages.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Playing on the road hardly bothered the New York Giants as they posted their fourth straight road playoff victory dating back to their Super Bowl season of 2007. Eli Manning tossed three TD passes and the Giants upset the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers 37-20 to earn another road trip to San Francisco to play the 49ers next Sunday in the NFC championship.

BALTIMORE (AP)__The Baltimore Ravens rode their trademark stingy defense to a 20-13 victory over Houston, forcing four Texans turnovers. That earned the Ravens a trip to New England next Sunday to play the Patriots in the AFC title game.

WASHINGTON (AP)__The Washington Nationals signed left-hander Gio Gonzalez, whom they just acquired in a trade with Oakland three weeks ago to a five-year, $42 million contract. The 26-year-old Gonzalez, a 16-game winner last season, now teams with phenom Stephen Strasburg and Jordan Zimmermann at the top of the Nats rotation.

HONOLULU (AP) — Johnson Wagner played bogey-free over the last 12 holes and won the Sony Open for his third PGA Tour title. Wagner shot a final round 3-under 67 for a two-shot victory over Carl Pettersson, Sean O'Hair, Harrison Frazar and Charles Howell III.

CLEVELAND (AP) __ Ohio State and Michigan took their heated rivalry to the ice yesterday, playing the first outdoor college hockey game in Ohio before 25,864 fans in chilly temperatures at Progressive Field, baseball home of the Cleveland Indians. Derek DeBlois and David Wohlberg scored 28 seconds apart in the second period to lead the No. 15 Wolverines to a 4-1 win over the No. 2 Buckeyes.

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) — The Philadelphia Flyers beat the New York Islanders for the 26th time in 28 games, 3-2 last night. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 33 shots. Scott Hartnell, Wayne Simmonds and Sean Couturier scored for the Flyers, who moved within two points of the Atlantic Division-leading New York Rangers.

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (AP) — Penn State President Rodney Erickson says it "grieves" him when people refer to "the Penn State scandal" because he thinks it centers on just one person — former football assistant coach Jerry Sandusky, who's accused of molesting boys. About 650 alumni attended the sometimes heated 90-minute meeting outside Philadelphia yesterday. It's part of Erickson's effort to repair the school's image. Another meeting takes place today in New York.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Joe Paterno's son, Scott, says it's becoming apparent that his father's ouster as Penn State head coach by school trustees "was not handled well." Scott Paterno's comments in a statement to the Associated Press were in response to a trustees' statement that Paterno was immediately removed and not allowed to retire after the season because of "extraordinary circumstances."

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Buffalo Bills receivers coach Stan Hixon will be the lead assistant under new Penn State coach Bill O'Brien. Hixon is among six assistants formally announced to O'Brien's coaching staff.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Damion Lee scored 21 points and Drexel outscored George Mason 10-2 in the game's final 3 ½ minutes to seal a comeback 60-53 win last night. Drexel has won three straight, while George Mason had a season-high six-game winning streak snapped.

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (AP) — James Johnson scored 18 points, Ike Azotam 14 and Dave Johnson 12 — all in the second half — to help Quinnipiac rally past Robert Morris 78-76 last night. The Bobcats trailed 35-27 at halftime, and shot 66.7 percent in the second half.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl is selling a Broncos' Tim Tebow jersey for charity. He's selling the jersey he wore earlier this week while striking a prayerful, one-kneed pose. The pose has been made popular by the Denver quarterback. Ravenstahl "Tebowed" in front of news crews to settle a bet with Denver Mayor Michael Hancock on Sunday's playoff game. The Broncos won 29-23.

WASHINGTON (AP) — With Penguins captain Sidney Crosby watching from the press box, Washington's Jason Chimera scored off a turnover in the first period and Tomas Vokoun made 30 saves, giving the Capitals a 1-0 victory last night. It was Pittsburgh's sixth consecutive loss.
NEW YORK (AP) — Carmelo Anthony had 27 points and nine rebounds, and the New York Knicks snapped the Philadelphia 76ers' six-game winning streak with an 85-79 victory last night. Andre Iguodala and Evan Turner each scored 16 points for the 76ers.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Penn State University president Rodney Erickson faced a crowd of about 600 people in Pittsburgh last night to answer questions about a child sex abuse scandal and the firing of longtime football coach Joe Paterno. Many people cheered at the suggestion the board of trustees resign. Erickson is attempting to repair the school's image in the wake of the scandal.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Investigators with the state attorney general's office have started re-interviewing current and former employees of Penn State's athletic department as part of the criminal case against Jerry Sandusky. A person familiar with the case tells The Associated Press that current or ex-staffers of the football program will be among those interviewed.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — A Penn State administrator charged with failing to report an allegation of child sex abuse involving former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky has been diagnosed with a recurrence of lung cancer. Athletic Director Tim Curley's wife says doctors are monitoring his condition after an illness first diagnosed in June of 2010 flared up again.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Bo Spencer scored 19 points to lead four Nebraska players in double figures, and the Cornhuskers defeated Penn State 70-58 last night for their first Big Ten victory. Toney McCray added 13 points and Caleb Walker and Dylan Talley scored 12 apiece for the Huskers.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Eli Carter scored 14 points, Dane Miller added 11 points and 12 rebounds and Rutgers crushed reeling Pittsburgh 62-39 last night. The Scarlet Knights held the Panthers to 21 percent shooting while sending Pittsburgh to its fifth straight loss.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Freshman Dez Wells dunked his way to 16 points with nine rebounds, and Xavier's defense was back in form for the first time in a month, steadying the Musketeers to a 78-50 victory over Duquesne last night. Xavier got back-to-back wins for the first time since a brawl against Cincinnati in December resulted in suspensions and left a formerly Number 8 team struggling.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Khalif Wyatt scored 22 points last night and Temple held on to beat Saint Louis 72-67. Ramone Moore had 18 points and Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson scored 12 for the Owls, who shot 57 percent from the field.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The Philadelphia Flyers beat the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 last night. Sean Couturier scored the tiebreaking goal 3:23 into the third period. Brayden Schenn had the Flyers' other goal and Sergei Bobrovsky made 35 saves.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Ottawa Senators made quick work of the slumping Pittsburgh Penguins in a 5-1 victory last night. Milan Michalek scored twice and Craig Anderson stopped 29 shots. Evgeni Malkin scored his 17th goal of the season for Pittsburgh but couldn't stop the Penguins from matching their longest losing streak in two years.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia 76ers routed the Sacramento Kings 112-85 last night for their sixth straight victory. Elton Brand had a season-high 21 points and 10 rebounds. The Sixers are 7-2 and lead the Atlantic Division. It's their best start since Allen Iverson helped them open 10-0 on their way to the NBA finals in 2000-01.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers are heading into an uncertain offseason. Coach Mike Tomlin acknowledges that change is inevitable, even for one of the NFL's most stable franchises. Pittsburgh's stunning 29-23 loss to Denver in the wild card round last Sunday put an end to a 12-5 season. With seven defensive starters in their 30s, the Steelers could go through a significant transition before the 2012 season kicks off.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — The new Penn State University coaching staff is taking shape without Jay Paterno. He's leaving after spending 17 years as an assistant under his father, Hall of Fame coach Joe Paterno. His departure was expected after the school named New England Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien to succeed JoePa as head coach. Paterno was fired on November 9th.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Penn State President Rodney Erickson will be paid $515,000 annually through June of 2014 and then step down from the position. The school's Board of Trustees announced yesterday that Erickson had signed the deal, which could see him get raises based on his annual evaluations. Erickson tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette he plans to step down as president when the contract expires.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Tyreek Duren scored 21 points to lead La Salle over Pennsylvania 68-57 last night, setting a season-high with six straight wins. Earl Pettis added 18 points and Sam Mills 12 for the Explorers, who haven't dropped a contest since a 70-66 loss at Delaware on December 19th.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Khadijah Rushdan scored 14 points and April Sykes added 11 to lead Number 8 Rutgers to a 63-39 win over Pittsburgh last night. Monique Oliver, Briyona Canty and Betnijah Laney each scored 10 points for the Scarlet Knights. Oliver also had 11 rebounds.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh started the season in its usual spot in the Top 10. Two months later, the struggling Panthers are dead last in the Big East. Pitt is riding a four-game losing streak into today's matchup with improved Rutgers.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Andre Iguodala scored 20 points and Lou Williams added 13 to help the Philadelphia 76ers win their fifth straight game, 96-86, over the Indiana Pacers last night. Led by Iguodala and a deep roster, the Sixers are dominating in the second half to turn close games into comfortable ones.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers are still reeling from their stunning overtime loss to Denver on Sunday night. Coach Mike Tomlin acknowledges there can only be one winner this year, and it's not them. Pittsburgh lost 29-23 on Tim Tebow's 80-yard touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas on the first play of the extra period.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The National Football League and former players want a number of concussion-related lawsuits to be heard in Philadelphia. The parties want to consolidate the suits filed across the country by former players who say they've suffered concussion-related brain injuries. A hearing on the issue will be held later this month in Miami.

LONDON, Ontario (AP) — A hockey fan has been fined $200 for tossing a banana at a black player during an NHL exhibition game. Christopher Moorhouse threw a banana at Philadelphia Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds as he was approaching Detroit Red Wings goalie Jordan Pearce during a shootout in the September game in London, Ontario.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh is hoping for better days ahead after a dismal season. The Panthers fell to SMU 28-6 in the BBVA Compass Bowl on Saturday to cap a 6-7 season in which the play on the field was overshadowed by the drama off it. Pitt announced in September it was leaving the Big East to join the ACC by 2014. The big jolt, however, came in mid-December when first-year coach Todd Graham announced he was taking the head coaching job at Arizona State.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Sue Paterno says she and husband Joe Paterno gave $100,000 last month to Penn State, split between a library and an undergraduate fellows program that bear the family name. Sue Paterno says it was an annual gift to the Paterno Liberal Arts Undergraduate Fellows Program and the Paterno Library.

DENVER (AP) — One of the most storied NFL playoff teams ran into a rejuvenated Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos. Sorry, Pittsburgh Steelers. The magic is back. Tebow connected with Demaryius Thomas on an electrifying 80-yard touchdown pass on the first play of overtime and the Broncos defeated the stunned Steelers 29-23 in the AFC wild-card game yesterday.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — It's official. Josh McDaniels will return to the New England Patriots as an offensive assistant this week, and will serve under Bill O'Brien, the offensive coordinator who was named coach at Penn State on Saturday. The team made the announcement last night. O'Brien and McDaniels will now gameplan for the Denver Broncos in the AFC divisional round.

OTTAWA (AP) — Filip Kuba scored the go-ahead goal with 1:11 left and the Ottawa Senators beat the Philadelphia Flyers 6-4 yesterday to earn a split of the weekend home-and-home series. Kuba fired a slap shot from the left point past goalie Ilya Bryzgalov, and Nick Foligno sealed the win with an empty-net goal with 45 seconds to go.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Jordan Hulls hit seven of Number 12 Indiana's season-high 16 3-point field goals to help the Hoosiers snap a 16-game Big Ten road losing streak and hold on for an 88-82 victory over Penn State yesterday. Hulls scooted around the perimeter all game for open looks and finished with 28 points for Indiana.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Frantz Massenat scored a career-high 24 points to lead Drexel to a 64-58 victory over Virginia Commonwealth last night. The sophomore guard hit 7 of 10 shots, including all four of his 3-point attempts, as the Dragons won for the eighth time in nine games.

VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) — Maalik Wayns scored 21 points, Dominic Cheek added 20 and Villanova defeated DePaul 87-71 yesterday, snapping a three-game losing skid for the Wildcats. Mouphtaou Yarou had 14 and JayVaughn Pinkston 13 for Villanova. The Wildcats had lost their first three conference games for the first time since joining the Big East in 1980-81.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Earl Pettis scored 19 points and Ramon Galloway had 18 as La Salle built a 26-point halftime lead and coasted to an 82-75 victory over Massachusetts 82-75 yesterday. The Explorers shot 56.7 percent as they built a 51-25 halftime lead, including 10 of 16 on 3-pointers.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — According to multiple reports, New England Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien has agreed to replace Joe Paterno as Penn State's head coach. Citing unnamed sources, ESPN first reported last night that an official announcement would be made on Saturday, and that O'Brien would continue on as an assistant with the Patriots the rest of the postseason.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — James van Riemsdyk's second goal on the power play with 32.8 seconds remaining lifted the Philadelphia Flyers to a 5-4 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks last night. Brent Seabrook and Patrick Kane scored 25 seconds apart late in the third period to tie it, but van Riemsdyk made sure the Flyers shook off the disappointment from their Winter Classic loss.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger practiced yesterday but his left ankle is still sore heading into Sunday's wild card game at Denver. Offensive coordinator Bruce Arians says there are no plans to consider putting backup Charlie Batch into the lineup.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Billy Oliver scored a career-high 21 points and Penn State held Purdue to a season-low 31 percent shooting in a 65-45 win last night to end a six-game losing streak against the Boilermakers. Tim Frazier added 15 points, including a leaning banker in traffic in the lane to extend the lead to 54-38 with about 8 minutes left.

ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) — Brandon Young scored 26 points, including a three-point play with 1.3 seconds left, as DePaul beat Pittsburgh 84-81 last night. Young scored the game's last seven points for the Blue Demons after Pitt held an 81-77 lead with 17.2 seconds remaining.

VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) — Jawanza Poland matched his career-high with 20 points to lead South Florida to a rare Big East road victory, 74-57 over Villanova last night. It was just the seventh road win in the seven seasons since the Bulls joined the league.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (AP) — Velton Jones scored nine of his 15 points during a huge second-half run as Robert Morris pulled away from Bryant for an 84-53 Northeast Conference victory last night. The Colonials eased to a 29-14 lead in the first half, but the Bulldogs fought back to trail 34-28 at intermission.

DENVER (AP) — Denver Mayor Michael Hancock is making a friendly wager with Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl over the Broncos' playoff game against the Steelers. If the Broncos win, Ravenstahl will kneel, like Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow does, in front of an iconic Pittsburgh location and wear a Broncos jersey. If the Steelers win, Hancock will wear a Steelers jersey and sport a Terrible Towel during one of his public events.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Jrue Holiday scored 14 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter, leading the Philadelphia 76ers to a 101-93 win over the New Orleans Hornets last night. Holiday was 3 for 9 from the field after three quarters. He drained three 3-pointers and five of six shots the rest of the way.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger says he aggravated his sprained left ankle in 13-9 win at Cleveland last weekend but expects to play in the wild card game at Denver on Sunday. Roethlisberger was limited in practice yesterday and walked into the trainer's room afterward with a noticeable limp.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark says he didn't put up a fight when coach Mike Tomlin told him he couldn't play in Sunday's wild card game at Denver. Clark has a blood condition that becomes aggravated when playing at altitude. Clark nearly died in 2007 following a game in Denver when the sickle-cell trait he suffers from flared up.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Internal Penn State memos sent out two weeks after former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky was charged with child molestation show the university's president and trustees working to repair a tarnished image and bracing for potential donor backlash. Three of the four memos obtained by The Associated Press were sent by Rodney Erickson after he was named president following the ouster of Graham Spanier (SPAN'-yur).

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Khalif Wyatt scored 22 points and Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson had 17 to help Temple knock off Number 5 Duke 78-73 last night. Using tough man-to-man defense that limited Duke's long-range shots, the Owls grabbed the lead midway through the first half and never let it go.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Earl Pettis scored a season-high 23 points as La Salle held off Xavier 80-70 last night in the Atlantic 10 Conference opener for both teams. The Explorers have won four straight and nine of their last 10 contests while the Musketeers have lost five of six since their brawl with Cincinnati on December 10th.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — C.J. Aiken had 15 points, including the game-winning basket, as Saint Joseph's beat Duquesne 84-82 in overtime last night in the Atlantic 10 opener for both teams. Aiken made a layup with 1:32 remaining in overtime, and then the Dukes missed two chances to tie including a jumper by Eric Evans with 1 second to go.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Samme Givens scored 18 points and Drexel defeated Towson 60-27 last night, setting a school record for least points allowed since it joined Division I. It was also the least points ever given up in a Colonial Athletic Association game.

EASTON, Pa. (AP) — Zack Rosen scored 24 points and had four assists, becoming Pennsylvania's all-time assists leader with 506, as the Quakers outlasted Lafayette 78-73 last night. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Eagles chairman Jeffrey Lurie says coach Andy Reid will be back. Lurie says Reid will return for his 14th season in Philadelphia, though he called this 8-8 season the "most disappointing" of his ownership.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark will not play in Sunday's AFC Wild Card game in Denver because of a sickle-cell trait that makes it dangerous for Clark to play at higher elevations. Coach Mike Tomlin says having Clark suit up is not worth the risk.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Flyers forward Jaromir Jagr has a mild left groin strain, and will miss seven to 10 days. Jagr left the Winter Classic with a leg injury on Monday. He's in his first season with Philadelphia after three in Russia.

DALLAS (AP) — Penn State interim coach Tom Bradley plans to hit the recruiting trail this week upon knowing full well his itinerary may change at any minute. Nearly two months after Joe Paterno was fired, the school still hasn't settled on a permanent replacement. The coaches have said they plan to work until the very end — whether that means they'll be staying on staff or not.

HANOVER, N.H. (AP) — Bucknell rallied from a 10-point deficit to defeat Dartmouth 67-59 last night. Mike Muscala scored 18 points, hitting all 10 of his free throws. Joe Willman added 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field for the Bison, who trailed 45-38 with 14:31 to play.

BETHLETHEM, Pa. (AP) — C.J. McCollum scored 18 points as Lehigh coasted to an 82-55 victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore last night. The junior guard got 11 of his points in the first half, when the Mountain Hawks built a 45-16 lead at the break.

NEW YORK (AP) — The NHL Winter Classic between the host Philadelphia Flyers and the New York Rangers was the fifth-most watched regular-season NHL game in 37 years. New York's 3-2 victory on Monday at Citizens Bank Park averaged 3.74 million viewers to NBC. It was the fifth edition of the outdoor game.

DALLAS (AP) — A tumultuous season comes to an end for Penn State's football team as the 24th-ranked Nittany Lions face number 20 Houston in the TicketCity Bowl today in Dallas. A number of former Nittany Lions will be part of the crowd, with many of them reaching out to current players in the aftermath of the sexual abuse scandal.
