PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A.I. versus Kobe delivered the throwback duel fans paid to see. Just like in the 2001 NBA finals, Bryant's Lakers came out on top. Bryant scored 24 points to lead Los Angeles to a 99-91 win over Philadelphia. Allen Iverson had a season-high 23 points for the Sixers.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - Yale used a strong first half to pull away from Penn in a 61-48 victory on Friday night. Porter Braswell scored 14 points and Greg Mangano had 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench for the Bulldogs.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia Eagles have promoted Howie Roseman to general manager. Roseman has been the team's vice president of player personnel the last two seasons. He replaces the departed Tom Heckert, who left two weeks ago to become the GM in Cleveland.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Former Steelers linebacker Jerry Olsavsky is rejoining the team as a defensive quality control coach. Olsavsky succeeds Lou Spanos, who left the Steelers after 16 seasons to become the Washington Redskins' linebackers coach.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A central Pennsylvania racetrack is asking state officials to investigate a New Hampshire horseman after 10 of his horses were euthanized on the track in 13 months - two last week alone. Penn National Race Course jockeys have refused to ride this week on or against horses owned by Michael Gill.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Hall of Famer Bill Mazeroski soon will be able to walk down Mazeroski Way on Pittsburgh's North Side and see a statue twice his size depicting him hitting one of baseball's most famous homers. He gave a brief talk Friday as a miniature version of the statue was unveiled.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Two of the most accomplished coaches in Philadelphia basketball history have been inducted into the city's Big 5 Hall of Fame. John Chaney led Temple to five NCAA tournament regional finals, and Rollie Massimino coached Villanova to one of the most improbable of NCAA championships. Former La Salle coach Speedy Morris was also inducted Friday.
