MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALLSAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Cliff Lee pitched a four-hitter in his National League debut, carrying a no-hit bid into the sixth inning and even adding two hits with the bat, and the Phillies felt an immediate impact two days after acquiring the left-hander from Cleveland, winning at San Francisco 5-1 last night. Jayson Werth homered to put Philadelphia ahead early and added a two-run single in the seventh, Raul Ibanez drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh for an insurance run and Lee did the rest. He tossed his 11th career complete game, fourth this season and third in four starts. Lee's line: one run, six strikeouts, two walks, 109 pitches and 78 strikes. He was done in 2 hours, 39 minutes, getting a hug from catcher Paul Bako afterward.
ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) - Pedro Martinez allowed five runs - four earned - and three hits in five innings of a rehab start Friday night for the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the Philadelphia Phillies' top minor league affiliate. Using a fastball that reached 93 mph on the stadium radar gun and an effective changeup, Martinez breezed through four innings against the Columbus Clippers, allowing only one run. He then gave up four more in a 35-pitch fifth. Martinez threw 84 pitches total, striking out four and walking three, in what could be his final rehab start before joining the defending World Series champions.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Steve Pearce hit his first homer of the season, Lastings Milledge had two RBI singles in his Pittsburgh debut and the new-look Pirates snapped a five-game losing streak with a 5-4 victory over Washington last night. Ross Ohlendorf (9-8) allowed two runs and six hits in 6 1-3 innings, Matt Capps earned his 21st save and Andrew McCutchen went 2 for 3 for the Pirates. Ryan Zimmerman homered and Cristian Guzman went 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Nationals, who have lost three straight. The last-place teams met on a trade deadline day that included the first game for their respective watered-down rosters.
The Pittsburgh Pirates traded minor league right-hander Sean Smith to the Toronto Blue Jays for future considerations Friday. The 25-year-old Smith, who appeared in the 2006 Futures Game at PNC Park, is a combined 4-3 with a 2.67 ERA in 25 games (four starts) split between Triple-A Indianapolis and Double-A Altoona this season. Smith was a 16th-round draft choice of the Cleveland Indians in 2001. He was traded to the Colorado Rockies early last season and signed with the Pirates as a minor league free agent last winter. Pittsburgh will receive a player to be named or cash from the Blue Jays.

LATROBE, Pa. (AP) - No signs, no pictures, no trophies. For the Pittsburgh Steelers, no looking back, either. The Steelers reported to training camp Friday one day short of the six-month anniversary of their victory over the Arizona Cardinals in the Super Bowl. If they didn't have their championship rings to prove it, it would almost seem like the game wasn't played. That's just the way coach Mike Tomlin wants it. While other teams might raise large celebratory signs at the training camp, or put the Lombardi Trophy on display for their fans to see up close, the Steelers are barely acknowledging their record sixth Super Bowl title during camp. The just-printed team media guide waits until Page 22 to acknowledge it - and then only because it's included in Tomlin's biography.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - This may be as close as Dan Rooney comes to retiring from pro football. Rooney is now listed as the Pittsburgh Steelers' chairman emeritus - a title commonly given to an executive who has retired from professional life. The Steelers did not formally announce the title switch, but club officials confirmed the change Friday as players reported for the first day of training camp. Rooney's family has owned the Steelers since their founding in 1933 and was the Steelers' president from 1975 until 2003, when he became team chairman. Rooney named the U.S. ambassador to Ireland earlier this year by President Barack Obama. His son, Art II runs the Steelers' on a day-to-day basis and has been the president since 2003.
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) - Expectations are high - as usual - for the Philadelphia Eagles this season. Fans are counting on Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook to deliver that elusive Super Bowl title. While the supporting cast keeps changing, McNabb and Westbrook remain the focal point on a team that has reached the NFC championship game five times in the last eight years. But the five-time Pro Bowl quarterback and the former All-Pro running back have plenty of help. The Eagles added two veteran offensive linemen and three rookies who could make an impact at skill positions. Westbrook was among several key players not practicing Friday. Injuries forced the Eagles to reshuffle their offensive line. Center Jamaal Jackson was the only one of the projected five starters at his normal spot.
ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) - The Detroit Lions have signed third-round pick Derrick Williams to a three-year contract. The team announced the deal Friday, but didn't disclose further terms. Williams is a wide receiver from Penn State. Detroit selected him 82nd overall in April's draft and expect also to work him out as a kick returner. Williams started 43 games during his career at Penn State, catching 161 passes for 1,743 yards and nine touchdowns. His 1,743 yards rank 10th in school history, and his 161 receptions rank third. Williams is 5-foot-11, 197 pounds and from Greenbelt, Md.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia high school product Hakim Warrick is reportedly talking to the 76ers about a deal. A source familiar with the situation tells the Philadelphia Daily News the Sixers are among two or three teams negotiating with the unrestricted free agent forward. Warrick has spent his entire 4-year career in the NBA with Memphis. Over that time, he's averaged 10.2 points and 4.3 rebounds a game.
The Milwaukee Bucks and the Cleveland Cavaliers have also expressed interest, according to ESPN.com.
LONG POND, Pa. (AP) - Tony Stewart won at Pocono Raceway this season from the rear of the field. He gets to try it this time from the pole. Rain washed out Sprint Cup qualifying on Friday, putting Stewart on the pole and giving the points leader a shot at sweeping the races on the triangle track from worst and first. Qualifying for the June's race at Pocono also was rained out and Stewart was awarded the pole. He wrecked the next day in practice, forcing him to the back of the field. Smoke responded with his first Cup points race victory as owner/driver. Stewart holds a 192-point lead in the points standings over last week's winner Jimmie Johnson.
LONG POND, Pa. (AP) - Pocono Raceway is adding a green solar energy project to go with the green flag. The track unveiled plans on Friday for a three-megawatt solar
farm which will power all their energy needs and support the local energy grid. It's the largest renewable energy project in the world for a sports facility. The $17 million project will see nearly 40,000 photovoltaic modules, or, solar panels, spread over approximately 25 acres of land formerly used as parking lots. The project is set to be completed by the spring of 2010. Pocono Raceway president Brandon Igdalsky said the project will not only satisfy Pocono Raceway's energy needs, it can also power nearly 1,000 homes and lower carbon dioxide emissions by11,100 tons every year.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - With a $1 million first place prize on the line, a Pennsylvania man has the early lead in the Forrest Wood Cup. Dave Lefebre brought in his five fish limit of smallmouth bass early on and was among two dozen pros who were able to catch their limit. He leads the pro field with a catch totaling 8 pounds, 13 ounces. Lefebre lives just two hours away from the Pittsburgh tournament site, in Union City.
Lefebre has set up shop in an area between two underwater rocks on the Ohio River. Also in the same general area is Chevy pro Larry Nixon. The fishing continues through Sunday.
