PHOENIX (AP) - Justin Upton homered and drove in three runs and
Chris Snyder added a solo shot as the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated
the Philadelphia Phillies 4-0 last night. The Phillies lost for
only the sixth time in 25 games this month and saw their NL East
lead drop to 6 games. They open up a series against the San
Francisco Giants tonight.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Looking for a top starter to bolster their
so-so rotation, the Philadelphia Phillies acquired reigning AL Cy
Young Award winner Cliff Lee from the Indians. The defending World
Series champions are sending Cleveland four minor league prospects
for Lee and outfielder Ben Francisco. The deal is pending medical
reviews.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Randy Winn lined an RBI single down the
first-base line with two outs in the 10th inning and the San

of 68 after a long battle with cancer. McDermott says with the
results Johnson got, there must be a "book of potions and magic"
somewhere around.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Heath Miller has
agreed to a six-year contract that runs through the 2014 season.
Miller, one of the top blockers among NFL tight ends, had one

Pittsburgh's first-round draft pick in 2005.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Elton Brand is ready to give the
Philadelphia 76ers what they paid for. The often-injured power
forward believes he can return to form and be the double-double
presence in the post that earned him two All-Star berths and an $80

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (AP) - Pennsylvania's governing body for high school athletics has voted to keep its enrollment classification system for football intact. The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association's board voted 15-13 Friday morning in favor of keeping the current system of four classes, Class A through AAAA. The PIAA voted down a proposal that would have moved to a six-class system for football
only and shortened the current 16-week season to 15 weeks. The current system will remain in place through the end of the 2011-2012 school year.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Sean McDermott has replaced Jim Johnson as the Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator, two days before the team opens training camp. The 68-year-old Johnson took an indefinite leave of absence in May to continue treatment for a cancerous tumor on his spine. It's uncertain whether he'll return to the team in any capacity. McDermott, 35, will be introduced at a news conference on Saturday afternoon, the team said Friday. He ran the defense in Johnson's absence after serving as secondary coach last year. McDermott originally joined the Eagles in 1998as a scouting administrative coordinator, and has served in various roles as an assistant on the defensive staff.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) - Penn State receiver Deon Butler signed a multiyear contract with the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle made Butler its third-round draft choice. Rookies are due into training camp Thursday. Butler impressed Seahawks coaches and quarterback Matt Hasselbeck with his speed and hands in spring minicamps.

RENO, Nev. (AP) - Lawyers and legal scholars say the woman accusing Ben Roethlisberger of raping her last summer may have a chance of winning an out-of-court settlement. But she will have a difficult time convincing a judge and jury she was assaulted by the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback.

ASTON, Pa. (AP) - Jose Canseco has withdrawn from his celebrity boxing match against a former chicken wing eating champion, citing his father's illness as the reason. Canseco was scheduled to box Bill "El Wingador" Simmons on last night at an ice skating rink in suburban Philadelphia. The exhibition features only three, 1-minute rounds.

MIAMI (AP) - Unbeaten rookie J.A. Happ won again, and so did the
Philadelphia Phillies. Happ allowed five hits in seven innings, and
the Phillies extended their longest winning streak since 2006 to
eight games by beating the Florida Marlins 5-0 yesterday. The
Phillies are at home tonight to open up a series against the
Chicago Cubs.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Matt Cain held the Pirates to one run over
seven innings to outpitch All-Star replacement Zach Duke, and the
San Francisco Giants, saddened by the death of their part owner
earlier in the day, ended an offensive slump by beating Pittsburgh
4-3 yesterday. The Pirates open up their series at home with the
Milwaukee Brewers

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Pirates badly need a reliable
starting pitcher. Despite Ian Snell's stellar statistics at
Triple-A Indianapolis, it apparently won't be him. Snell has a 0.34
ERA in four starts since being demoted June 25, but the Pirates
don't plan to recall him because of his apparent reluctance to
return to the majors.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Pirates have cut off contract
talks with shortstop Jack Wilson and second baseman Freddy Sanchez
after the player didn't respond to multiyear offers. This increases
the chances the double-play duo will be traded before the season
ends.

ATLANTA (AP) - Martin Prado hit a game-ending RBI single in the
10th inning and the Atlanta Braves beat Philadelphia 5-4 last
night. It was Atlanta's first home win over the Phillies since
2007. Atlanta went 0-9 against the Phillies at Turner Field last
year. The Phillies and Braves continue their series tonight in
Atlanta.

ATLANTA (AP) - Jimmy Rollins is back in Philadelphia's lineup
after sitting out four straight games. Rollins, hitting .211 after
an 0-for-19 slump, returned as the Phillies' shortstop and leadoff
hitter for last night's game against Atlanta. Phillies manager
Charlie Manuel said he hopes Rollins will "play the way he always
has, like he has fun."

ATLANTA (AP) - The Philadelphia Phillies have placed left-hander
Antonio Bastardo on the 15-day disabled list with a strained
shoulder. The team recalled another left-hander, Sergio Escalona,
from Triple-A Lehigh Valley before last night's game in Atlanta.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Ross Ohlendorf pitched seven innings and
helped Pittsburgh beat the Chicago Cubs 3-0 last night. The Pirates
beat the Cubs for only the sixth time in their last 26 games in
Pittsburgh. The Cubs finished a forgettable June in which they went
11-14, their first losing month since August 2007. The Pirates and
Cubs battle it out again tonight.

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) - In soccer, The Harrisburg City
