DETROIT (AP) - Hockeytown is preparing to get it on again tonight. It's opening night of the Stanley Cup finals at Joe Louis Arena and it's a rematch of last year's finals between the defending champion Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins. It's the first time since 1983 and '84 when the New York Islanders and Edmonton Oilers met that the same two teams are fighting for the Cup two straight years.

DENVER (AP) - The Los Angeles Lakers are in the NBA Finals for the second straight year and 30th time in franchise history. The Lakers led from start to finish and eliminated Denver in six games 119-92 behind Kobe Bryant's 35 points and 10 assists last night.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - The Cleveland Cavaliers face another win-or-go-home elimination game in their NBA Eastern Conference final at Orlando. The Cavs forced tonight's Game 6 by beating
Orlando 112-to-102 Thursday night in Cleveland behind LeBron James' triple double.

PARIS (AP) - Andy Roddick has advanced to the fourth round of the French Open for the first time in his career, beating Marc Gicquel (zhih-KEHL') of France 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 today. The
sixth-seeded Roddick is only the second American to reach the fourth round at Roland Garros since Andre Agassi in 2003. Robby Ginepri made the same stage last year.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Steve Stricker takes a one-shot lead over Tim Clark into today's third round of the PGA Tour event at Colonial Country Club in Texas. Stricker has shot two straight 63s as players are taking advantage of soft greens and light winds at the venerable course.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Phillies pitcher Brett Myers could miss his
next start - and potentially more - with an injured right hip.
General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. says an MRI has revealed fraying
and possible tearing in the labrum of the hip joint. Myers told The
Philadelphia Inquirer yesterday that doctors said he likely will
need surgery.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Penguins are the first team
since the 1983 Edmonton Oilers to return to the Stanley Cup finals
a season after losing in them. The Pens are eager to find out if
they're ready to make a breakthrough, especially since they're
playing the returning champion Detroit Red Wings, who eliminated
them last season. The finals start tomorrow night in Detroit.

DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Red Wings expect star defenseman
Nicklas Lidstrom to play in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals
against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Red Wings general manager Ken
Holland said yesterday he's encouraged by how Lidstrom's lower-body
injury has recovered after he was forced to miss two games.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia Flyers forward Simon Gagne has
had surgery to remove a bone spur and adhesions that built up in
his right hip. Gagne had the surgery yesterday and was expected to
recover in four to six weeks. He had 34 goals and 74 points in 79
games for the Flyers this season.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Ric Flair is getting back in the wrestling
ring. The 60-year-old former World Wrestling Entertainment champ is
working for Ring of Honor. The Philadelphia-based wrestling company
prides itself on putting more emphasis on the sport of wrestling
and hopes the "Nature Boy" can give the next generation of stars
a brand-name boost.

It was Hawpe's sixth homer of the season.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia 76ers season is over. The
Orlando Magic advanced to the second round of the Eastern
Conference playoffs, beating the Sixers 114-89 in Game 6 last
night. And the Magic handled the Sixers without suspended star
Dwight Howard and injured guard Courtney Lee.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Orlando forward Hedo Turkoglu wasn't around
to watch his team finish off the Philadelphia 76ers last night.
Officials ejected him Game 6 because of a brief fourth-quarter
skirmish with 76ers center Samuel Dalembert. Turkoglu finishe with
12 points.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - There probably won't be much drama when the
Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers begin their lone mandatory
offseason practices today. Tomlin's biggest challenge now isn't
winning his players over. It's winning another Super Bowl.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia-based Comcast Corporation won't
pull the plug on the NFL Network just yet. Negotiations will
continue even after the contract expires. Comcast and the league
are in a court battle over Comcast's decision to put the NFL-owned
channel in a premium sports tier rather than in a lesser-priced
package.

NEW YORK (AP) - Joe Paterno felt like he was in charge again
this spring. Penn State's 82-year-old coach was back on the field
with his surgically replaced hip, more mobile, more energetic and
more patient, free of the pain that had dogged him for two years.
Paterno spoke to reporters while attending a New York fundraiser
yesterday.
