READING PHILLIES:
Reading, Pa. -- A seven-run third inning in which the Phillies sent 12 batters to the plate was more than enough in an 8-3 victory Sunday afternoon over the Portland Sea Dogs.

In the meantime, Phillies starter Tim McClaskey survived a shaky start and went seven strong innings to improve his record to 3-6.

Trades heating up...Cubs keep hex on Cardinals...Agassi loses

UNDATED (AP) - Players began changing uniforms as several baseball deals were made ahead of Monday's trade deadline. The Texas Rangers acquired All-Star outfielder Carlos Lee from the Milwaukee Brewers for reliever Francisco Cordero and outfielders Kevin Mench and Laynce Nix.

UNDATED (AP)- In other deals, San Francisco Giants acquired 39-year-old left-handed reliever Mike Stanton from the Washington Nationals for a minor league pitcher and Philadelphia traded third baseman David Bell to Milwaukee for minor league pitcher Wilfrido Laureano. The Atlanta Braves acquired reliever Danys Baez (DAN'-eez BY'-ehs) and infielder Willy Aybar from the L-A Dodgers for third baseman Wilson Betemit.

CHICAGO (AP) - The Chicago Cubs are 17 games back in the National League Central, but they appear to have the number of division-leading St. Louis. Juan Pierre drove in three runs in the Cubs' 6-to-5 win to improve Chicago to 8-and-3 against the Cardinals this season.

EVIAN, France (AP) - Karrie (KAHR'-ee) Webb takes a one-shot lead over 16-year-old Michelle Wie (wee) into today's final round of the Evian Masters. The Australian carded a 3-under-par 69 in her third round in France while Wie shot a 70.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Fernando Gonzalez defeated 36-year-old Andre Agassi 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 in the quarterfinals of the Countrywide Classic. Top-seed Andy Roddick withdrew because of a strained back.

MADRID, Spain (AP) - The winner of the Tour de France insists when it comes to the way he competes, "nobody can talk about doping." Floyd Landis held a news conference in Spain a day after it emerged that tests found abnormally high levels of testosterone at one stage of the race. But Landis says he has naturally high levels of testosterone, and he vows to undergo all necessary tests to prove that.

EPHRATA, Pa. (AP) - A homecoming parade for Tour de France champion Floyd Landis is being put on hold by the town of Ephrata. The parade was to take place as early as next week and feature 500 cyclists. But parade organizer Rich Ruoff says that plans have been put on hold pending the outcome of drug tests on Landis' backup sample. The initial sample tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone and his victory in the Tour has been thrown into
doubt.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Rookie Ricky Nolasco didn't allow a hit until two out in the seventh inning and combined with two relievers on a three-hitter to lead the Florida Marlins over Philadelphia, 4-to-1 last night. Nolasco is 9-and-6. He allowed only an infield single off his glove to light-hitting Abraham Nunez and walked five in seven and a-third innings. Tyler Tankersley and Logan Kensing finished the three-hitter. Phillies second baseman Chase Utley singled off reliever Tyler Tankersley in the eighth inning to extend his hitting streak to 28 games, the longest in the major
leagues this season.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia Phillies are sending third baseman David Bell to the Milwaukee Brewers for a minor league pitcher. Bell will be a free agent after this season. The Phillies got Class-A right-hander Wilfrido Laureano. He was 3-and-2 with a 3.96 ERA in 29 relief appearances for West Virginia of the South Atlantic League.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Kip Wells won for the first time in ten months by pitching the Pittsburgh Pirates over San Francisco, 3-to-0 last night. The Giants have lost five straight. Wells is 1-and-5. He had not won since October first of last season. He missed almost three months to start this season due to March surgery to repair a blocked artery in his pitching arm.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Barry Bonds likes road trips to Pittsburgh, but he's not interested in finishing his career in the same city where he started. In Pittsburgh with the San Francisco Giants for a series against the Pirates, Bonds looked relaxed in the city where he took his first major league swings.

LATROBE, Pa. (AP) - Six weeks after a scary motorcycle crash, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is in Pittsburgh Steelers camp and expected to join teammates for their annual running test today. Not-so-big Ben has arrived a bit thinner as his broken jaw heels, but he's in much better shape than his teammates could have imagined.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Steelers have agreed to terms of a five-year contract with first-round draft pick Santonio Holmes. Holmes agreed to the deal minutes before Bill Cowher held his first full-squad meeting of training camp last night. The deal apparently does not include added contract language protecting them against additional off-field problems.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - An attorney for Barry Bonds wants to know how the San Francisco Chronicle learned the Giants forwarded the outfielder's medical records to a grand jury investigating him for perjury and tax evasion. Lawyer Michael Rains says there is nothing in the records indicating Bonds used performance-enhancing drugs. Rains claims there was a government leak of his client's medical records.

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Ben Sheets is expected to start tonight's game against Pittsburgh after spending two months on the disabled list with tendinitis in his right shoulder. Sheets made four starts for the Brewers earlier this season, going 1-and-3 with a six-point-44 E-R-A.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Cornerback Ty Law signed a five-year, 30(m) million-dollar deal with the Kansas City Chiefs after passing his physical. Law led the N-F-L with ten interceptions while playing for the New York Jets last season. He's reunited with Chiefs head coach Herman Edwards, who was the Jets' head coach last year.

Section 3 Little League Tournament

The Road to Williamsport ended for the Orwigsburg All Stars Thursday night.

The District 24 Little League champions were defeated by a tough Juniata Valley All Star team 12 to 9 at Tunkhannock.

The long ball was the key to Juniata's victory. Orwigsburg led early, behind the pitching of J.R. Kerschner. But two individual home runs in the third inning, and 7 runs with two out in the 4th inning gave Juniata the lead. Orwigsburg battled back, and had home runs from Kyle O'Brien and Will Foster. But a three-run home run in the top of the 5th inning sealed the victory for Juniata County.

Orwigsburg's tournament run ends with the loss. Congratulations to the Orwigsburg All-Stars on a great season.
